About LGBTQ-Affirming Therapy

I am a LGBT-affirming therapist who wants you to know you are fine, just the way you are. You can expect therapy to be delivered in a competent, experienced and affirming manner. Whether you’re a person exploring your own sexual or gender identity, or a family member, having a safe place to talk is vital. I use pronouns she/her.

What is affirmative therapy you may ask?

The basis of affirmative therapy is that LGBTQ and heterosexual identities are equally valid.

Affirmative therapy is: an approach to therapy that embraces a positive view of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ) identities and relationships and addresses the negative influences that homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism have on the lives of LGBTQ clients

Adapted from Rock, M., Carlson, T. S., & McGeorge, C. R. (2010). Does affirmative training matter? Assessing CFT students’ beliefs about sexual orientation

If you are beginning the process of exploring your gender identity, or in the process of transitioning, I can help! Based on the WPATH Standards of Care I will provide support and guidance for the decisions you’ll be making and options you’ll be exploring on this journey to your ‘true you’. I can assist with referrals to other LGBTQ+ affirming medical professionals such as endocrinologist as well as provide letters of support needed for your transitioning process.
