About Substance Use Therapy
I have spent more than a decade providing substance use treatment in both private practice and substance use facilities and hospitals. I am passionate about the idea of recovery be it from substance use, a behavioral/process addiction such as gambling, or freeing one’s self of the endless cycle of unmanageability related to emotional dysregulation. I have formal training in Motivational Interviewing, and have held my International Certification for Gambling Counselors-I since 2007. I fully support Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) and frequently will provide the therapy portion which many MAT clinics & physicians as well as insurance companies require, for dosing of medications such as Suboxone, Subutex, methadone, etc.
Services Available
Individual therapy: session length varies from 30 minutes to 55 minutes depending on a collaborative discussion around individualized needs. Most people are seen weekly or bi-weekly depending on each person’s needs and preferences. If more frequent sessions are needed or a referral to a higher level of care such as an Intensive Outpatient Program or Inpatient Hospitalization is required, we will talk about guidelines that would require such a referral.
Sometimes family/spouses are invited in as collateral support, however I do not specialize or typically offer couples therapy or family counseling.
My training and clinical experience includes the use of Motivational Interviewing, CBT-E (CBT-Eating Disorders), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy).
